By using a transmitter equipped with a wireless setting function, settings can be modified while the servo is installed in the vehicle. Please refer to the table below for the items that can be tuned and their contents, mostly related to tuning.

Smoother

This function adds smoothness to the servo movement relative to stick operation. Please stay “ON” for general use, but “OFF” mode for quick response can be desired such as 3D.

Dead Band

This function can set the range (angle) of the dead zone at the stop position.

Recommended Range

(On the screen, the range can be adjusted between 0.00 to 3.98.)

Relation of dead band set value and servo operation

  • Smaller Value Setting: The dead band angle becomes small and the servo can be more sensitive when a small signal change applied.
  • Larger Value Setting: The dead band angle becomes large and the servo will be less sensitive to smaller change.

If the dead band angle is too narrow, the servo will be in a constant state of adjustment and the current consumption will increase. This will affect to life of the servo.

Damper

This function can set the characteristics when the servo is coming to a stop.

Please set the range of +/- 32 the default value.

(On the screen, the range can be adjusted between 0 to 255.) *Default 96 for this case.

If the value is smaller than the standard value, the servo will have a tendency to overshoot (going too far and then returning). If you increase the value, the servo will behave as if the brake was applied right before the target position.

In particular, when a large load is applied, overshoot due to inertia can be suppressed. Also, it is effective for suppressing hunting (a phenomenon in which the servo moves in a convulsive manner), which can occur depending on the various usage condition. If hunting still occurs even though parameters such as dead band, stretcher, and boost are appropriate, please try to adjust the values to larger than the initial values.

It affects not only the response but also the characteristics of escaping from clipping point and chicane turnaround speed when used in cars.

Relation of the damper set value and servo operation

  • Smaller Value Setting: Overshooting-trend but watch for hunting.
  • Larger Value Setting: Early braking-trend. It may feel the servo response worsened.

The hunting trend will lead to an increase in current consumption and an impact on the servo’s life.

Stretcher

This function can set the servo’s retention characteristics.

Recommended Range

(On the screen, the range can be adjusted between 0.125 to 8.000)

When the current position of the servo is out of alignment with the target position, the torque to return to the target position can be tuned. Suppressing hunting is effective, but the holding characteristic changes as shown below.

Relation of the stretcher and servo operation

  • Smaller Value Setting: Servo holding force becomes weaker.
  • Larger Value Setting: Servo holding force becomes stronger.

Larger parameter will lead to higher current consumption by servo.

Boost

The minimum current that is applied to the internal motor when the servo is started is adjustable.

Recommended Range

(On the screen, the range can be adjusted between 3 to 45)

For example, since the motor cannot be activated if the difference between the commanded position and current position is too small, it essentially feels like the dead band has been expanded. Adjusting the minimum current allows the motor to be started immediately.

Relation of the boost set value and servo operation

  • Smaller Value Setting: The movement becomes smoother despite not reacting to small amounts of input.
  • Larger Value Setting: This enhances the initial reaction and increases torque at the beginning of the movement, but if it’s too large, the movement will become rough.

Boost ON/OFF
OFF (default): Boost is effective during low-speed operation.
ON: Boost has been always effective in all situations and is suitable when quick operation is desired.
